Brief History of Alpha Kappa Chapter Tulsa, Oklahoma
Alpha Kappa Chapter of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. was chartered and organized between the hours of 1-O’clock and 5-O’clock on the third Sunday, August 19, 1944 under the direction of Lonnie W. Johnson. Then chapter’s existence was made possible by seventeen inspired women who were appreciative of the high ideals and specific goals of Phi Delta Kappa. In addition, they cherished the sororal affiliation their membership afforded. The charter members are: Velma Rose Barrens, Lydia Copeland, Lessye V. Carter, Buena Green, Juanita E. Tate, Alma Marsh, Myrtle Heatley, Rose Musgrove, Minnie Francis Hooker, Edna Jordan, Lillian Perry, Artis Fuller, Alice Jones, Essie Webb, Myrtle McKeever, and Mamie Smith Baker.

Seven years later, due to circumstances beyond their control, Alpha Kappa Chapter meetings became more and more infrequent. Eventually, all were cancelled.
This inactive condition lasted from 1952-1977. At this time, on June 15, 1977, under the supervision of Soror Minifred E. Kibler, Member-At-Large and Annie F. Williams, Regional Director, Alpha Kappa Chapter was reactivated and proudly, once more, became a very viable sorority.
